Mike Brodeur and Kramer Barnstable have done our goalie training in the past and they are fantastic with the kids. Mike is a retired NHL/AHL goaltender that has 8 years of pro experience. Kraymer runs a lot of goalie development around Central Alberta and has previously played with the Vancouver Giants and Red Deer Rebels.
This will be a decision made by every team for which tournaments they would like to enter. All Longhorns teams will play in a minimum of 2 tournaments, but most will play 3 or even 4. The majority of teams will be done the Spring season after May Long Weekend or the first week of June. More tournaments are available in June, but I recommend that the kids take a few months off before the new hockey season starts.
The cost of the program is between $1100-$1200. This will include a paid head coach, on ice insurance, approximately 12-16 practices, 2 exhibition games, a reversible jersey, socks and a Longhorns apparel package. Please note that any tournaments your team wishes to enter will cost extra and will be taken by a cash call.
We typically run practices twice a week starting from the last week in March until the end of May. We will have hitting clinics, position specific skates and power skating that will also be offered as extras for those families that are looking to do more. Spring season usually ends around May Long Weekend for most of our groups.
The Longhorns home is mostly the Olds Sportsplex. Due to the number of Longhorns teams, we will also be running our programs out of Red Deer and Airdrie. We have a 2012 and a 2015 team that are based out of Red Deer, Beaumont and Leduc.
